The Forts Trail stretches for 85 km and offers a pleasant route combining heritage and nature.

This ride is accessible to cyclists of all levels and forms a cross-border loop between France and Germany.

Along the way, you can see 19 military structures and learn more about the history of Alsace.


The Forts Trail: a route between France and Germany


The Forts Trail follows the old defense lines of Strasbourg. It forms a loop that crosses forests, fields, and picturesque villages, passing through. Germany just a few kilometers away.

Well-marked and mostly on dedicated paths, it is ideal for a day trip or a multi-stage ride.

You don't have to ride the entire 85 km. You can choose to ride only sections of it.


Discovering Alsatian Fortifications


Along the route, you can explore a series of military structures built between 1870 and 1918. Here are some of the forts to discover:
  • Fort Joffre in Lingolsheim;
  • Fort Uhrich in Illkirch;
  • Fort Foch in Niederhausbergen;
  • Fort Lefebvre in Geispolsheim;
  • Fort Mutzig, etc.

These defensive fortifications, hidden in the heart of nature, illustrate the importance of the region's military strategy. Some are open to visitors:

Fort Rapp in Reichstett;
Fort Frère in Oberhausbergen;
Fort Kléber in Wolfisheim
Fort Ducrot in Mundolsheim.
